"A Land Lost to Fires."For the longest time, I wanted to explore Stromlo Forest; or rather, the small part of it that bordered Dixon Drive within the Holder area. It was a very short walk from our house to where it lay, through one of the tiny paths and across a road, past two bus stops. But since I was only twelve or so, my parents always told me that it was too dangerous, and that if I was to go I would have to be escorted by an adult. From time to time, my sister's boyfriend Karl (who is now her ex-boyfriend) would take me as far as the bicycle obstacle course he had personally shifted around, which was made from piles of gravel left behind during construction,"A Land Lost to Fires."
